Doxazosin, a Selective Alpha-1 Blocker, in the Treatment of Premature Ejaculation

Objective: Pharmacotherapy for premature ejaculation has been widely used years. The efficacy of antidepressants, especially SSRIs, confirmed by many randomized controlled studies. orthosympathetic activity on the ejaculatory system is a well-studied entity. In this study, our purpose to evaluate selective α-1 blocker, doxazosin, in treatment ejaculation. Material and Methods: study comprised 42 patients (mean age 39.11) out total 44 with PE who were referred Ege University Urology Outpatient Clinic from September 2000 June 01. Among them, 27 asked use daily dose 4 mg α-blocker doxazosin 6 weeks. control group consisted 15 placebo (starch) same way as doxazosin. After therapy weeks, all interviewed assess report any side effects. Results: There was significant increase latency 12 (44.40%) compared placebo, where only 2 13 (13.30%) showed similar effect. effect found be statistically (p<0.043). profile no difference between placebo. Conclusion: result indicates that safe effective PE. Its comparable phenoxybenzamine clomipramine, reported literature. Additionally, its significantly lower milder adverse appears an advantage.
